Fly fishing tuition

For the fly fishing activities below anglers must come dressed in suitable outdoor clothing. As a minimum this must be a suitable outdoor coat, boots or wellington’s and a hat/cap. Protective eye wear will be provided however anglers may bring their own. Tackle will be provided for all however anglers are again welcome to bring their own to use. The packages below are run at either Marton Heath Trout Pools in Cheshire or Ellerdine Lakes in Shropshire.

Fly casting tuition
Learn the art of fly casting or improve your technique through a one hour 1 to 1 casting lesson. Learn the overhead cast, shooting line, the roll cast or the single and double haul. These sessions are purely casting lessons and can be incorporated into your fishing day or be undertaken as a stand alone session.

Fly fishing tuition
Learn or improve your fly fishing skills through either a taster session or as part of a half or full days fly fishing. Two hour “taster” sessions can be organised for those who are new to fly fishing and want to give it a go. This will include a one hours casting lesson followed by one hours fishing. All tackle will be provided. Alternatively a two hour fishing session can be organised for those who want to develop their techniques, whether that be fine tuning your casting or learning a new fly fishing technique.

Guided Fly Fishing
Book a full (8hrs) or half day (4hrs) guiding session to help you improve your fly fishing skills. This is aimed at the angler who has some experience and needs a little extra help to catch a few fish. Various methods and tactics will be covered that are applicable to the time of year. Learn how to fish nymphs, dries or lures. Fish with more than one fly. Try various sinking lines. These are the ideal sessions to ask those niggling fly fishing questions and have them answered!

Group and Corporate packages
Full or half day packages to meet your groups needs can be arranged at local stillwater trout fisheries. The ideal group size for fly fishing would be up to a maximum of six people however more can be catered for with additional instructors. ALL TACKLE CAN BE PROVIDED. We also offer clay pigeon shooting, breakfast and lunch in conjunction with the Waggon and Horses at Eaton. www.thewaggonandhorseseaton.co.uk

We have been running junior fly fishing courses at the beautiful Marton Heath Trout fishery for the last eight years. Details of this years courses can be found on the calendar section of this website. During the last eight years we have taught over 200 local young anglers the basics of fly fishing. Two have gone on to represent England at youth level. The courses cover tackle, knot tying, fly casting, entomology, safety, fish care and welfare and of course fly fishing. Courses are approximately three hours long and are run during the school holidays or evenings. Alternatively 1-1 or small group tuition can be arranged. Fly and coarse fishing birthday parties can be arranged!!

Rivers tuition
River fishing for grayling and wild brown trout can be organised at a range of venues across England and Wales. Try for winter grayling on the River Dee or fish for small brown trout on various rivers across England. The Welsh Dee and Derbyshire Wye are used during the relevant seasons. This can be either as part of one of our courses or on a 1-1 or small group basis

Loch style tuition (boat fishing)

Packages are available for both beginners and experienced anglers wanting to improve their techniques. Sessions can be a full day, half day or evening from May to August to catch that evening rise. Boat use, safety, tackle, leader set ups, flies and fly lines will be covered during the session. This is an opportunity to experience loch style fishing with an England International. We use both Draycote Water and Blithfield Reservoir.
